Obituary of Marilyn Aurilia Havel
Marilyn Aurilia Havel, 86 of North Liberty died Saturday, August 2, 2008, at her home following a lengthy illness. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, August 5, 2008, at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City with the Reverend Doug Williams officiating. Burial will be at the Lone Tree Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8pm Monday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in her memory to the Visiting Nurses Association or Iowa City Hospice. Online condolences may be sent for her family through the web @ www.gayandciha.com. Marilyn was born January 24, 1922, in Oxford, the daughter of Charles and Elsie (Gegenheimer) Moscoe. She was united in marriage to Hugo Havel on May 26, 1961, in Rock Island, IL. During her lifetime Marilyn wore many hats. She was one of the first LPNs in the state of Iowa, was an EMT, volunteered countless hours, babysat for hundreds of children, restaurant owner, community center manager, and even had her real estate license. She received many certificates, awards, and recognitions, with one being her proudest; the First National Medical Self Help Award from the State of Arkansas for Marilyn saving a mans life. Her family includes two daughters, Coramarie Rathmel (Sam) of Knoxville, IA, and Dianna Rath of North Liberty; step-son, Glenn Havel (Doris) of Iowa City; step-daughter, Diane Bradley (Tim) of Iowa City; 16 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, 18 great-great-grandchildren, brother, Leigh Roberts of Salem, OR; many nieces and nephews, and special friends, Debbie, Ashley, and Frank. She was preceded in death by her husband, Hugo; son, Virgil Parker, son-in-law, Gordon Rath; 3 great-grandchildren, brother, Charles; sisters, Wave, Suzanne, and Clarice.
