Obituary of Anna Eileen Haines

Anna Eileen Haines, 93 of Iowa City died of cancer Friday, September 19, 2008, peacefully in her home at Legacy Pointe in Iowa City, surrounded by some of her family, through the assistance of Iowa City Hospice. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, September 24, 2008, at the First Presbyterian Church in Iowa City. Graveside services will be held at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Concord Cemetery in Mystic, Iowa. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 pm Tuesday at Gay and Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service. Anna Eileen (Toy) Haines was born October 27, 1914, in Beacon, Iowa the daughter of Clara (Evans) Toy and Joseph Toy. She attended schools in Beacon, Oskaloosa, Penn College (Oskaloosa, Iowa), Iowa State Teacher’s College (UNI), Cedar Falls, Iowa and Pestalozzi-Froebel Teacher’s College, Chicago, Illinois. For many years she was a fifth-grade teacher in Joliet, Illinois. On January 22, 1933, she was united in marriage to Guy Robert Haines in Unionville, Missouri. She has resided in Mystic, Iowa; Cedar Falls, Iowa; Fulton, Illinois; Grand Rapids, Michigan; Joliet, Illinois; Truth or Consequences, New Mexico and Iowa City, Iowa. She was a member of Northminster Presbyterian Church of North Liberty, Iowa and First Presbyterian Church of Iowa City, Iowa. Eileen belonged to Eastern Star (OES) Jessamine Chapter; American Federation of Teachers (AFT). Special interests of hers included playing bridge, reading, traveling in their motor home, spending over 40 summers at their cottage in Michigan, collecting stuffed toys, teaching adult Sunday School, and crossword puzzles. Her family includes her children, son, Dr. Don Haines (Vicki Dunbar) of Iowa City, IA; son, Dr. Edward (Elaine) Haines of Milford, PA; daughter, Ann (Gene) Clements of Berkeley, CA; grandchildren, Robert (Catherine) Haines, Fairfax, VA.; Mary (Jon) Severn, Doylestown, PA.; Matthew Haines (Jennifer Holub), Shady Shores, TX; Jessica Haines (David Bunton), St. Louis, MO; Justin Haines, Iowa City, IA; Dr. Amy (Dan) Brugger, Davis, CA; Dylan (Elizabeth) Clements, Berkeley, CA; great grandchildren, Tristan Toy, Shannon, and Hannah Haines; Benjamin and Emma Severn; Jacob and Adam Brugger She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Guy Haines; two sisters, Elsie Eileen (infant) and Thelma Fern Kepcke; triplet great grandchildren, Jeremiah, Anthony, and William Bunton.
