Obituary of Lillian Vesta Harbison

Lillian Vesta Harbison, 97 of 701 Oaknoll Drive, Iowa City died Sunday, November 2, 2008, at Oaknoll Retirement Residence in Iowa City, Iowa Lillian was born August 28, 1911. in Lancaster, MO, the daughter of Archibald and Galelia (Lasley) Gray. She was married to Herman Harbison in Lancaster, MO, he died in 1991. Lillian graduated from Hannibal LaGrange College in 1938. She later received her Master’s degrees in Education from the University of Missouri, and degree’s in Psychology and Counseling from the University of Iowa. From 1946 through 1977 she taught at Mark Twain School in Iowa City. She will be remembered for working with many developmentally challenged children, including high school students with reading difficulties. In 1998 she received an Honorary Doctoral Degree from Hannibal LaGrange College. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, Order of Eastern Star, AAUW, and the Iowa City Garden Club. Lillian was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and brothers, James and William. Memorial services will be held a 10:00 a.m. Thursday, November 6, 2008, at Oaknoll Retirement Residence. Graveside services will be held at 2pm Thursday at the Arni Memorial Cemetery in Lancaster, MO.
