Obituary of Walter M. Rouse

Walter M. Rouse, 93 a longtime resident Iowa City died Monday, December 8, 2008, at the Greenwood Manor Care Center in Iowa City. Family services with military honors will be held in the spring. Walter was born January 9, 1915, in Boone, Iowa the son of Martin and Margaret (Conry) Rouse. Following graduation from Iowa City City High School he attended the State University of Iowa. He was united in marriage to Volivia Huber on December 25, 1937, here in Iowa City. During WWII, Walter served his country in the United States Navy. Following military service he returned to Iowa City where he worked for Lafferty Paint, later as an independent paint contractor. He later worked for the University of Iowa as the foreman of the paint and glass shop, retiring in 1966. His family includes a son, Walter M. Rouse II “Mike” of Waukesha, WI; daughter, Sharon Kay Shapcott of Iowa City; 4 grandchildren, Elizabeth Fry, Christina Bogust, Walter Michael Rouse III, and Sean Rouse; 10 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren. Walter was preceded in death by his parents, wife, 2 brothers and 2 sisters. Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service is caring for Walter’s family and his services.
