Obituary of Anna E. Bulechek

Anna E. Bulechek, 97, lifetime rural Iowa City resident, died Sunday, September 7, 2014, at Crestview Nursing and Rehab Center in West Branch. Graveside services will be held at 2 pm Friday, September 12, 2014, at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Iowa City. There will be a period of visitation at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service one hour prior to the services at the cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made in Anna's memory to the establishment of the Hospice House in Iowa City. Anna Elizabeth Brogaard was born September 2, 1917, in Johnson County, Iowa, the daughter of Martin and Nellie (Stagg) Brogaard. She attended rural schools in Johnson County. Married Laurence W. "Larry" Bulechek at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa on June 8, 1941. The couple farmed in this area all their lives. Anna enjoyed raising chickens, tending to her garden, playing cards, fishing in Minnesota, caring for her many pets over the years and the daily life on the farm. Most of all she will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother and friend to many. She had been a long time member of the North Scott Social circle and the a 50 year member of the Rebekah Carnation Lodge. Her family includes her two sons, Donald W. (Deana) Bulechek of Iowa City and their daughter, Davona Bulechek-Quinlan (D.J.) of Iowa City; and Anna's son, Mark L. (Maxine) Bulechek of Iowa City; their daughter, H. Dianne Hammerand and two great-grandchildren, Ziva and Ori. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Laurence; brothers, Everett Brogaard in infancy and John Brogaard, and her sister, Agnes Siebert. Anna's family would like to thank the Visiting Nurses Association, Iowa City Elder Services, Iowa City Hospice and all at Crestview Nursing and Rehab Center for the compassionate care and support all have provided for our mother and grandmother over the years.
