Obituary of Rose Marie Scott

Rose M. Scott, 93 of Iowa City died Wednesday, February 4, 2009, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, February 7, 2009, at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Iowa City with the Reverend Michael Phillips officiating. Burial will be at the St. Joseph Cemetery in Iowa City. Visitation will be from 4 to 7pm Friday at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service. Rose Marie Cerny Scott was born March 14, 1915, in Iowa City, the daughter of Charles and Gertrude (Kessler) Cerny. Growing up in Iowa City she attended schools here, graduating from City High School with the class of 1932. She was united in marriage to Roy L. Scott on September 1, 1933, in Morrison, Illinois. The couple made their home in Iowa City where for years Rose worked as a secretary for a number of physicians, and later for Globe Loan. Roy died May 28, 1973, following this she focused her time and love on her family. Her family remembers her enjoyment watching the birds and squirrels, playing cards, and just being with her family! Rose’s family includes her children, Roylene Johnson (Virgil) of Ottumwa; Richard Scott (Iris) of Iowa City; Rosemary Chown of Melrose, WI; Ruth Smith (Guy) of Iowa City; and Raymond Scott (Virginia) of Iowa City; 12 grandchildren, 1 step-grandchild, 17 great-grandchildren, 2 step-great children; and 1 great-great grandson. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son, Roy Scott Jr., brother, Leo Cerny; and a sister in infancy.
