Obituary of Dorothea O. Schaffer

Dorothea O. Schaffer, 74 of Iowa City died Tuesday, March 24, 2009, at her home. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 27, 2009, at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City. Burial will be at the East York Township Cemetery (Harrington) in rural Iowa County. Visitation will be from 3 to 7pm Thursday at the funeral home. Dorothea Olga Evans was born December 1, 1934, in Iowa City the daughter of John and Ella (Gradeth) Evans. She attended schools in Iowa City graduating with the Class of 1952 from City High School. She worked as a telephone operator for Northwestern Bell for a number of years. On July 26, 1959, she was united in marriage to Ronald L. Schaffer. She began a career with Moore Business Forms in 1964 that spanned over twenty-five years before her retirement in 1990. Dorothea enjoyed bowling, dancing, going to the casino, she was a member of the Women of Moose; and always there at her grandson’s events, so very proud of him! Her family includes her husband, Ronald Schaffer; son, Douglas Schaffer of North Liberty; daughter, Rhonda Schaffer of West Branch; grandson, Kyle Schaffer of Tiffin; sister, Virginia Smith of Cedar Rapids; and a brother, David Evans of Overland Park, KS. She was preceded in death by her parents, sister, Catherine Huntsberger; and a brother, Harold Evans. Gay and Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service is caring for Dorothea’s family and her services.
