Obituary of Irene Mary Stroud

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, March 21, 2009, at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Iowa City with the Reverend Rudolph T. Juarez officiating. Entombment will take place at Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7pm Friday at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service where a parish vigil service will begin at 7pm. Irene Mary Kelly was born February 2, 1926, in Iowa City, the daughter of Frances and Agnes (Holmes) Kelly. She attended schools in Iowa City including St. Patrick’s. On September 19, 1945, she married Earl W. Stroud in Iowa City. She has lived her entire life in Iowa City, raising her twelve children, working in housekeeping at Mercy Hospital for a number of years, and most recently, loving the many grandchildren and great grandchildren she has been blessed with. For Irene, there was nothing more important than her family! Her family includes her husband of 63 years, Earl; daughters, Ginger Rost (Dennis) of Manson, Iowa, Terry Abbott (Ralph) of Davenport, Diane Siems (Wayne) of Oxford, Barbara Brant of Ankeny, Betty Staley (Larry) of Iowa City, Robin Cox (Don) of West Branch, and Christine Mayers (Rob) of Davenport; sons, William Stroud of Iowa City, Edward Stroud of Iowa City, and Richard Stroud of Solon; 28 grandchildren and 43 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, two sons, Ronald and Frank Stroud; granddaughter, Tiffany; and 8 brothers and sisters.
