Obituary of Gerald C. Bain
Gerald C. Jerry Bain, 69 of Iowa City died Monday, March 30, 2009, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City. Memorial services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, April 4, 2009, at the First Presbyterian Church in Iowa City, with the Reverend Samuel Massey officiating. Private family graveside services will take place at Oakland Cemetery in Iowa City. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established in Jerrys memory. Online condolences may be sent through the web @ www.gayandciha.com. Gerald C. Bain was born October 18, 1939, in Kincaid, WV, the son of John and Nancy Jordan Bain. Following graduation from high school in West Virginia, he attended and graduated from Aurora University, in Aurora, Illinois. It was here that he met his future wife, Dorothy M. Keierieber. They were married on August 11, 1962, in Aurora. He worked in Finance as a Corporate Controller for the Eaton Corporation Cleveland, OH, and also the Solectron Corporation of Milpitas, CA for many years. His position enabled him and his family to live in a number of states throughout his career, including Kentucky, Minnesota, Ohio and California. He retired in 1999 and in 2002 he and his wife, Dorothy moved to Iowa to be closer to their daughter and her family. Jerry was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Iowa City, and throughout his life has been very active in the churches where they have lived. His family and his faith was the essence of this man, a man of deep faith, strong convictions, and love for his family. Here in Iowa City, during this time of the year he volunteered his time and talent to providing tax services at the Senior Center. Jerry enjoyed travel, playing bridge and was an avid reader. His family includes his wife, Dorothy, daughter and her husband, Julie and Mike Simpson of Williamsburg; son and his wife, Jon and Catherine Bain of Carlsbad, CA; four grandchildren, Adam and Ryan Simpson, and Katie and Paige Bain; sisters, Lola Cumbridge of Wellston, Oh, Pauline Wood of Paris, TN, Helen Whitt (Nelson) of Richmond, VA, Jeanette Labate (Sal) of Boca Raton, FL, Nancy Bain of Batavia, IL, and Suzy Petkus (Gregg) of Batavia, IL; and one brother, Larry Bain of Batavia, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Dortha Varju and Ruth Dillon; brothers, John Bain and Lee Bain; 1 nephew and several nieces.
