Duane Franklin Petz was born September 29, 1940, in Ellinwood, KS the son of Edward and Audrey (Smith) Petz. The family moved to Williamsburg where Duane attended schools graduating from High School with the Class of 1959. He then went on to attend upper Iowa University and the University of Iowa for a short time. He married Barbara K. Brown on May 29, 1969, in Iowa City, and they celebrated forty-five years this past May! For a number of years he worked for the former Iowa-Illinois Gas & Electric Company, and for over 35 years worked for Slager Appliance Company in Iowa City, retiring in 2003. He was an avid bowler and golfer; Duane enjoyed the outdoors; fishing, camping, and looking for mushrooms. But near and dear to his heart was his family, all their gatherings, being on the sidelines of the grandson's and nephew's football games, and simply enjoying the clan! His family includes his wife, Barb; two daughters, Lori Lynn Black and Stacey Annette Gelina; 8 grandsons, DeLoss, Ryan, Tim, Tony, Cory, Bryan, Nick, and Brett; 7 great-grandsons, Xander, Xavier, Jonah, Ethan, Gavin, Gabe and Brayden; Duane's siblings. Annette Smith (Nick), Connie Richards (Bob), Rick Petz, Joe Petz, Angie Cochran (Craig) and David Petz; and numerous nieces and nephews. Duane was preceded in death by his parents, son, Terry D. Petz; son-in-law, 2nd. Lieutenant Mark Gelina; brothers, James, Lyle, and Dennis Petz; a great-niece, a great-nephew; and Duane's faithful companion, "Molly Girl". Duane's family would like to thank the Mercy Hospital Staff, and his physicians in particular; Dr. Salish Sarin, Dr. Vika Sharotri, and Dr. Linda Lee for all their wonderful and compassionate care.
