Obituary of Ruby Stratton

Ruby Stratton, 89, of rural Swisher died Sunday, April 05, 2009 at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids, following a lengthy illness. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 8, 2009, at the Oxford United Methodist Church, with burial at the Oxford Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7p.m. Tuesday at the Church. A memorial fund has been established in Ruby's memory. Online condolences may be sent for her family through the web @ www.gayandciha.com. Ruby J. Anderson was born July 8, 1919, in Ottawa, Illinois, the daughter of Andrew and Ella (Henderson) Anderson. She was united in marriage to Russell J. Stratton on June 24, 1949, in Rochester, Minnesota. The couple farmed for many years near Swisher, with their family continuing this today. Ruby enjoyed cooking for family and friends, but most of all in her life was her family. She especially loved becoming a grandma, and later a great-grandma; this was the greatest joy in her life, her family! Her family includes a daughter and her husband, Delphine and Christopher Diekman of Swisher; son and his wife, James and Lori Stratton of Swisher; grandchildren. Amy Calonder and her husband, Adam, Amber Stratton and friend, Cody Hennes, Amanda Vollbrecht and her husband, Steve, Jake Stratton, Travis Terpkosh, and Lucas Terpkosh; great-grandchildren, Avary and Braydon Calonder, and Easton and Evan Hennes. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Russell (March 1, 2004), 3 brothers and 5 sisters.
