Obituary of Mae S. Rembolt

Mae S. Rembolt, 96, passed away peacefully on Sunday May 3, at Oaknoll Health Center, Iowa City. Mae was born November 13, 1912 in Lincoln, Nebraska to parents Pearl and Alice Street. She graduated from Lincoln High School and attended the University of Nebraska. In 1931, Mae met her future husband, Raymond R. Rembolt, in Lincoln where both were active in the E.U.B Church. Mae and Ray were married on Sept 9, 1938 in Lincoln. While Ray was serving overseas during WWII, Mae and her two young children, David and Diana, lived with Ray's family in Grand Island, NE. The family then moved to Iowa City in 1948. Mae was proud to be the secretary to the Director of the Scottish Highlanders at the University of Iowa from 1956-1962. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and a member of PEO, Chapter KZ. She was an avid bridge player, Hawkeye fan and she enjoyed crossword puzzles and knitting. Mae was a very loving mother and wife and she adored her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Mae is survived by her son Dick and wife Penny (Winnie) Rembolt; grandchildren Jennifer (Brower) McNutt and husband Matt McNutt, Andy Brower and wife Diane (Hemann) Brower, Brad Rembolt, Katie Rembolt, and Kelly Rembolt; great grandchildren Megan and Ryan McNutt, and Emma, Sam and Ben Brower; daughter-in-law Charlotte Rembolt; son-in-law Frank Brower; and nieces and nephews. Mae was preceded in death by her parents; husband Raymond; daughter Diana (Rembolt) Brower; son David Rembolt; and her siblings. Memorial services will be held at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service of Iowa City on Monday, May 18 at 11:00 AM, preceded by visitation beginning at 10:00 AM until time of service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Oaknoll Foundation, Iowa City; Hospice of Mercy, Cedar Rapids; or First United Methodist Church, Iowa City.
