Obituary of Vernelle Clementine Pirkl

Vernelle Clementine Pirkl, formerly Adams, peacefully entered heaven’s gate on Saturday, May 23, 2009. She was meet there by her parents Maurice and Dolly, and husband Opal. Those mourning her loss include her children, Richard, Judy Thomas, Daniel, James, Peggy Brown and Jayne Frieling; 12 grand children and 18 great grand children, and countless friends. Vernelle was born April 9th, 1919, in Omaha, Nebraska, and grew up in Orson, Iowa, and was a lifetime Iowa resident. Vernelle was a trained licensed practical nurse, and met her husband Opal while in the Iowa City area attending school in 1944. They married in September of 1944, moved to North Liberty and raised their family. Vernelle worked for the University of Iowa for many years, but her greatest achievements were in the family she raised and the happiness she brought to so many. She will be missed, Mom we wish you God Speed. We send a special thank you to the staff at Greenwood Manor and all of the Hospice volunteers’. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, May 27, 2009, at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Iowa City. Burial will be at the Ridgewood Cemetery in North Liberty. Visitation will be from 5 to 7pm Tuesday at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City.
