Obituary of James Thomas Walsh

James T. Walsh, 92 of Lone Tree, died Tuesday, June 2, 2009, under the care of 5 North Mercy Hospice at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, June 8, 2009, at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City. Burial with military honors will be held at Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 6pm Sunday at the funeral home. A memorial fund has been established in Jim’s memory. Online condolences may be sent for his family through the web @ www.gayandciha.com. James Thomas Walsh was born February 10, 1917, in Ottumwa, Iowa the son of Joseph and Ida (Gee) Walsh. Following graduation from high school he enlisted in the United States Army serving his country during WWII. Returning from service he married Ida H. Flemming on August 14, 1946, in Rock Island, IL. The couple made their home in the Iowa City area, where worked for many years as a mechanic, for Wagner Pontiac, and later for Montgomery Wards Auto Department from where he retired. In his retirement he enjoyed bartending for a number of various bars in the area. He was a member of the Eagles Lodge, V.F.W., and the American Legion. Jim enjoyed his gardening, especially raising flowers; and also the more than occasional trip to the casino! His family includes sons, Ronald and his wife, Gloria Walsh, Thomas and his wife Janet Walsh, and Joseph and his wife, Lauri Walsh all of Iowa City; daughters, Virginia and her husband, Ronald Krueger of Lone Tree, Linda and her husband, Jeffrey Hall of Lone Tree, Pamela and her husband, Pete Montoya of Loveland, CO, Cindy Larkin and friend, Bret Penney of Solon, Judy Edwards, Sharon Walsh and friend, Gregory Hearns, and Donna Walsh and fiancé, Dave Hemsted all of Lone Tree; 26 grandchildren, and 54 great-grandchildren. He was greeted in heaven by his parents, wife, Ida; granddaughter, Tina O’Leary; 2 great-grandchildren, and a brother, Frank Walsh.
