Obituary of Robert H. Jeter

Robert H. Jeter, 84 longtime Iowa City resident died Friday, June 12, 2009, at the Iowa City Care and Rehabilitation Center. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, June 16, 2009, at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service, with burial at Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home, where a Masonic Memorial service will be held at 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers memorials can be made in Bob’s memory to the Shriners Children Hospital. Online condolences may be sent for his family through the web @ www.gayandciha.com. Robert H. Jeter was born May 16, 1925, in Des Moines, Iowa the son of Morris T. and Ann (Creiger) Jeter. He attended schools in Des Moines graduating from North High School. On January 14, 1947 he was united in marriage to Theresa Ann Klein here in Iowa City. Bob and Theresa owned and operated Plamor Lanes in Iowa City from 1946 until 2002. Bob was a member of the Iowa City KAABA Shrine, Iowa City Masonic Lodge, life member of the Elks, Iowa City Optimist Club, and Iowa City Men’s Bowling Association having been inducted into its Hall of Fame. He loved everything there was to love with being an Iowa Hawkeye Fan, especially the Saturday football games and tailgating with family and friends. He also loved being one of the members of the Iowa City Shriners Cammelwheels during the many parades over the years. His family includes three sons and their wives, Dean and Jan Jeter, Dennis and Sharon Jeter and David and Pati Jeter, all of Iowa City; 8 grandchildren, Mark Jeter (DeaDra), Phil Jeter (Teri), John Jeter, Jim Jeter, Alyssa Jeter (fiancé, Ben Uker), Ryan Jeter, Jenni Jeter and Swen Larson (Kelly); great-grandchildren, Peyton, Gavin, Jadyn, Katlyn,and Carlin; step-great-grandchildren, Dylan, Emily, Will, Drew, and Haley; sister, Evelyn Disterhoft of East Moline, IL; and numerous nephews and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Theresa in 2001; and his brother, Don Jeter. Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service is caring for Bob’s family and his services.
