Obituary of Floyd L. McGrew
Floyd L. McGrew, age 84, longtime Coralville resident died Saturday, June 27, 2009, at his home surrounded by his family after a courageous battle with lung cancer. Funeral services will be held at 7pm Tuesday, June 30, 2009, at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City. Visitation will be from 5 to 7pm Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial with military honors will be held at 10am Wednesday at the Oak Hill Cemetery in Coralville. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established in Floyds memory. Online condolences may be sent for his family through the web @ www.gayandciha.com. Floyd Leonard McGrew was born January 16, 1925, in Balta, ND, the son of Roy L. and Violet M. (Hamers) McGrew. He enlisted in the United States Navy at the age of 17 to serve during WWII. On August 30, 1958, he married Shirley Murschel in Mason City, Iowa. The couple made their home in Coralville for the past 40 years. For many years Floyd owned and operated General Tree Service in this area. He was a member of the Coralville American Legion, and a life member of A.A. Floyd enjoyed the outdoors, hunting and fishing, he loved spending time with family and friends. His family includes his wife, Shirley; children, Jeff McGrew and his wife, Lynn of Park Ridge, IL, Mick McGrew and his wife, Sarah of Tiffin, Carol Curran and her husband, Dennis of St. Paul, MN, and Jerry McGrew and his wife, Laurie of St. Paul, MN; grandchildren, McKenzie, Madison, Kyla, Chelsie, Chris, Mike, and Teresa; daughter-in-law, Tammy McGrew of North Liberty, and a brother, Rich Brown and his wife, Bernadine of St. Paul, MN. He was preceded in death by his parents, step-father, George Brown, and 2 sisters, Rosalie and Shirley. Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service is caring for Floyds family and his services.
