Obituary of Harry Heddens
Dr. Harry Heddens, 100, former longtime Wellsburg Veterinarian, died Saturday, September 20, 2014, at the Bickford Cottage in Iowa City.
Graveside Memorial services will be held 1:30 pm, Saturday, September 27, 2014, at the Wellsburg Reformed Church Cemetery, Wellsburg, Iowa.
Harry was born April 12, 1914, in Wellsburg, Iowa, the son of Claus and Evelyn (Eels) Heddens. Following graduation from Wellsburg High School in 1932, he attended and graduated from Iowa State University in Ames with his degree in Veterinary Medicine. Returning to Wellsburg he began his veterinary practice. During WWII he served in the United States Army, returning home to continue his practice following the war. Harry married Madge Campbell on May 21, 1938. The couple made their home in Wellsburg where they proudly raised their two daughters. Harry and Madge enjoyed dancing, often going to dance halls around the area. Harry and Madge loved the game of golf, and Harry was one of those instrumental in getting a golf course built in Wellsburg. After retirement the couple moved to McAllen, Texas. But most near and dear to them was their family; their girls, grandchildren and great-grandchildren!
Harry's family includes his two daughters and their husbands, Becky and Eric Jacobson of Ogden, UT; and Miekka and George Mires of North Liberty; grandchildren, Amy Jacobson, Tony (Alison) Jacobson, Freya Jacobson, and Paul (Jenny) Heddens; and two great-grandchildren, Grace and Brody Heddens.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Madge in 2000; and his siblings, John, Claude and Gladys Ashby.
