Obituary of Amanda R. Schany

Amanda Renée (Knight) Schany, 24, of Coralville died Friday, July 3, 2009, at Hospice of Mercy Hospital in Iowa City, with her family by her side. A gathering time to remember Amanda’s life will be held from 4 to 7pm Thursday, July 9, 2009, at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established in Amanda’s memory. Online condolences may be sent for her family through the web @ www.gayandciha.com. Amanda was born February 21, 1985, in Long Beach, CA the daughter of Patricia J. (Anderson) Knight and Bradley C. Knight. At the age of 2 she and her family moved to Spencer, IA, and then to Hartley, IA two years later. She resided there until moving to Iowa City in 1995. Graduating from West High School in 2003, she went on to attend the University of Iowa, receiving her degree in Economics in 2008. Amanda was united in marriage to Joseph (Joe) P. Schany on March 28, 2009. While in school, Amanda excelled academically, as well as in swimming on both the Iowa City Eels and the West High swim teams. She also participated in the West High band. Gifted with a passion for music, she was an accomplished pianist and was a driving force behind her husband’s band, East Eighteen. But most of all, Amanda’s love of her husband, step-daughter, and family was the greatest gift she had and shared. Her family includes her husband, Joe; step-daughter, Ally Schany of St. Louis, MO; mother, Patti Knight of Iowa City; father, Brad Knight of West Branch; brothers, Chuck, Kris, and Aaron all of Iowa City; grandparents, Warren and Carole Anderson of San Marcos, CA, and Forest Knight of Spencer, IA; mother-in-law, Kari Schany of Emmetsburg, IA, sisters-in-law, Katelyn and Blake Schany both of Emmetsburg; and many other members of Amanda and Joe’s family. She was preceded in death by her grandmothers, Dorothy Anderson and Janice Knight. Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service is caring for Amanda’s family and her services.
