Obituary of Paula E. Smothers

Paula Elaine Smothers, 64 of Iowa City passed away after a long, brave fight against cancer on Wednesday, July 8, 2009. A gathering for family and friends to celebrate her life will take place at 1pm Sunday, July 12, 2009 at Kandy Land @ 928 Maiden Lane, Iowa City. Paula Elaine Slinker was born December 22, 1944, in Blytheville, Arkansas the daughter of James and Pauline (Kleckner) Slinker. She moved to this area nearly 25 years ago. She took great pleasure in the simple things in life such as taking long trips on back country roads , fishing, listening to music and spending time with her kitty, Sassy; but most of all she loved the company of her family and her many longtime friends! Her family includes her daughters, Kelly Dhillon of Iowa City and her partner Daniel Hindes; Robin El-Hachem and her partner David Regan of Marlboro, MA; and Bobbette Bross and her spouse Bassim Shakarji of Columbia, MO; her son, Casey Toomer of Iowa City; grandchildren, Ashley, Lindsay & Dominic, Paula’s mother, Pauline Kleckner of Quincy, IL; sister, Jo Ellen Stanley of Quincy, IL; and brother, Brad Kleckner of IL.
