Obituary of Jean Evelyn Campbell Kupka

Jean Campbell Kupka, 90 of Iowa City passed away, Sunday, July 12, 2009, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. Jean was formerly the Ticket Manager at the Iowa Athletic Department. Memorial services will be held at 3:00 p.m., Thursday, July 16, 2009, at the First United Methodist Church in North Liberty with the Reverend Alecia Williams officiating. A gathering for family and friends will follow the services. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m., Wednesday at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City. In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made in Jean’s memory to the First United Methodist Church of North Liberty or the American Diabetes Association. Online condolences may be sent for her family through the web @ www.gayandciha.com. Jean Evelyn Campbell Kupka was born near Oxford, Iowa on December 19, 1918, to John and Mattie (Williams) Campbell. She attended Cosgrove School and graduated from there in 1937. She attended Business College in Iowa City and worked in the accounting departments of several businesses, including Economy and Hawkeye Foods, Pearson Drug, and Pepperidge Farm. Jean worked as assistant ticket manager for the University of Iowa Athletic Department from 1963 until 1979, at which time she became the Ticket Manager for the Athletic Department. She retired from that position in 1986. Jean’s family includes her daughter, Sheri Fletcher and husband Gary, son, Charles and wife Jan, 7 grandchildren, Mick Fletcher and wife Ann, Sarah Fletcher, Maggie Wagenknecht and husband Scott, Travis Kupka and wife Heather, Alyssa Kupka, Erin Barkley, and Joe Houlahan; 14 great-grandchildren, Noah Barrows, Maddie and Olivia Fletcher, Maya and Kara Wagenknecht, Kylie, Ethan and Cody Kupka, Samantha Kupka Sorenson, Tanner and Grace Barkley, and Mahina and Opal Houlahan. Jean was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Robert; sister, Lily Miller; and brother, Johnny Campbell. Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service is caring for Jean’s family and her services.
