Obituary of Joyce E. Tardiff

Joyce E. Tardiff, 73, of Iowa City lost her courageous battle with cancer on Monday, October 26, 2009 at her home surrounded by her family. Committal Services will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, October 30, 2009 at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Iowa City. A memorial fund has been established in Joyce’s name. Online condolences can be sent to Joyce’s family through the web @ www.gayandciha.com. Joyce Elaine (Malmberg) Tardiff was born August 20, 1936 in Chicago, IL., to Zola Chelf and Lawrence Malmberg. Joyce grew up in Lone Tree, IA where she graduated high school in 1954. In August of 1964, she married Albert Tardiff in Iowa City, which became their life-long home. Joyce was an active member of the Old Settlers Association and enjoyed spending time quilting at the senior center. Joyce spent significant time outside working on their flower gardens. She also enjoyed playing her hand at Bingo, another one of her life’s joys. Joyce was a well-known and well-liked neighbor as she often cared for the neighborhood animals. Joyce worked at K-Mart in Iowa City for over 25 years, retiring as a Checkout Supervisor after a dedicated career. Joyce’s family includes her daughter; Elaine Kasper of Iowa City, sons; Dean (Paula) Kasper of Lone Tree, Scott Tardiff of Iowa City and Timothy Tardiff of Iowa City, seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren as well as sisters Sandra Balke of Iowa City and Cara (Ernie) Kilman of New Hampshire. She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert and her parents. Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City is caring for Joyce’s family and her services.
