Condolences
I worked with Shawn for many years in the Dept of Anesthesia. He was a kind and gentle man, one of the nicest guys I've known. There was something so peaceful and calm about him and he always had a kind word or smile when you passed him in the hall. He will be missed by many. I send my deepest condolences to his boys and his wife. I hope that your memories will comfort you in the days and weeks ahead. - Jenni Nicholson
It's been my privilege to be one of Shawn's physicians through the years. He faced his health challenges with admirable strength and resolve, never losing sight of the priorities in his life. My thoughts and prayers are with your family.
My condolences to all of Shawn's loved ones and friends. I worked with Shawn for about 10 months. We had many conversations about our differing views on religion, politics, etc., and he was a great role model for learning how to respect other points of view and see things from different perspectives. He was a very helpful co-worker and had a great sense of humor. He will be missed by many.
Shawn truly brought out the best in us. I'll miss his kind ways and unending good natured quips. What a wonderful human being.
I moved to Iowa City in late 1989, and I briefly attended GNBC. Shawn was one of the first 'Iowans" I made friends with. I was thinking about him repeatedly on Saturday (4 October), and when I 'googled' his name, I found that he went home to be with Jesus...
Shawn will be greatly missed. My daughter Angel Marsh spoke very highly of him. He was a great mentor for her. My heart reaches out to all of his family.
It was truly an honor knowing and working with Shawn during the years we were both at the Dept. of Anesthesia. I always found him to be the calmest person around, willing to listen to anyone and offer advise when needed or just an ear. He will be missed.
Several years ago, I was struggling to get a manuscript submitted to another competing journal and was at a loss. Their editorial staff was far away and not responding to me. In desperation, I went and asked Shawn for some help and he very quickly helped me pass the hurdle. I recall at the time thinking what a wonderful person this was, who gave when most would not have. Since that time, we had many conversations and I found Shawn warm, personable, kind, and giving. He will be missed by many.
I have worked with Shawn for more than 10 years with the Anesthesiology journal. He was an outstanding colleague and friend. We had wonderful discussions about the journal, family and our favorite sports teams.
I'm sorry to hear about Shawn's passing. I worked with him many years ago and always found him to be a wonderfully kind man. I know that he will be greatly missed by those that he encountered on a daily basis. I will keep you all in my prayers.
Shawn was always friendly, kind, and thoughtful. He was a gentleman in every sense of the word. It was my priviledge to have known him. Brad HIndman, M.D.
Audrey, I am so sorry to hear of Shawns passing. I remember our bible studies together years ago. Shawn always had so much faith which always touched me. You and your family will be in my prayers. God Bless.
I am praying for the family that the Lord has His arms wrapped tightly around them at this time. I am also praying that someone will come to Christ as their Savior from the example that Shawn lived.
Shawn was my first life long friend. We meet in elementary school and were friends instantly. I love Shawn's humor. In fifth grade we were looking at a magazine in class. He wrote on a bald guys head Kojak fan. I started laughing out loud in class which landed both of us writing 500 sentences "I will not laugh in English Class.
Shawn was a "warrior" for the Lord's army; showing strength, courage and love to all those around him. Becky and I have been so inspired by him and his gracious smile and attitude. He introduced me to buying computers on eBay and was always excited about what he had to share...especially his love for the Lord. His gentle spirit was always evident. You will truly be missed.
May God bring his peace and love to your family. I was sad to hear this news. Each of you will be in my thoughts and prayers.
I am so sorry to hear of Shawn's passing. He is in a better place, and we only cry tears for those of us left behind. We will see them again one day, though, of that we can be certain. Hugs and prayers for you all.
Audrey and family, I'm so sad to hear of Shawn's passing. There's always an open door if you need to get away for a bit. Hugs to you!
