Obituary of Jerry M. Jones

Jerry M. Jones, 67 of North Liberty died Monday, February 8, 2010, at his home. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, February 11, 2010, at the First Christian Church in Coralville where there will be a period of visitation one hour prior to these services. A reception for family and friends will follow the services at the church, everyone is invited to stay for this. In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made in Jerry’s memory to the First Christian Church or Iowa City Hospice. Online condolences may be sent for his family through the web @ www.gayandciha.com. Jerry Martin Jones was born December 7, 1942, in Des Moines, Iowa the son of M. Dean Jones and Ellen Thompson Jones. In 1961, he graduated from City High School in Iowa City. Jerry followed in his father’s business in the Iowa City area, working in the oil business in various services stations. He moved to Arizona where he lived for many years, he returned to this area where he has lived for the past twenty years. Here he was a member of the First Christian Church, avid NASCAR fan, especially for Jeff Gordon; he enjoyed NASCAR Collectibles, classic cars, and computers. He married his longtime soul mate, Ethel Parcell, just ten days ago surrounded by family and friends. His family includes his wife, Ethel; mother, Ellen Jones of Iowa City; sons, Jerry M. “Jay” Jones of Tempe, AZ; Jon D. Jones (Reva) of Franklin, WI, Chad Jones (Brenda) of Cedar Rapids, IA, Jeffrey M. Jones (Lisa) of Parnell, IA; daughter, Tiffany Quintana (Alex) of Arizona; 8 grandchildren, Spencer, Crystal, Dustin, Brielle, Nico, Lilly, Aaron and T.J.; brother, Chuck Jones (Bev) of Minneapolis, MN; 2 step-children, Jeffrey Ellwood (Lisa) of Cedar Rapids, Angela Elsner (William) of North Liberty; 3 step-grandchildren, Andrew, Cameron, and Cora. He was preceded in death by his father, Dean; and a brother, Michael Dean Jones. Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service is caring for Jerry’s family and his services.
