Obituary of Bill C.F. Snider

Bill C.F. Snider, age 89 of Iowa City died Tuesday, March 9, 2010, at the Lantern Park Nursing and Rehab Center in Coralville following an extended illness. Funeral services will be held at 3pm Thursday, March 11, 2010 at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City. Visitation will be from 1-3 pm Thursday prior to the services at the funeral home. Inurnment will take place at Memory Gardens Cemetery Mausoleum. Memorial donations can be made in Bill’s memory to St. Andrew Presbyterian Church or Iowa City Hospice. Online condolences may be sent for Bill’s family through our website @www.gayandciha.com. Bill Carl F. Snider was born July 11, 1920, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa the son of Carl A. and Juanita (Hahn) Snider. He graduated from high school in Wichita, KS. Here he also graduated from Wichita University (now Wichita State University) with degrees in Math and Speech Correction. On February 21, 1954, he married Maris E. Nelson in Wichita, KS, having recently celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary. In 1955 he received his PhD from the University of Iowa in Educational Psychology & Psychological and Quantitative Foundations. Bill had been a Professor in the College of Education from 1956 until his retirement in 1991. He also served as a research consultant and served on more than 500 Masters & PhD of Philosophy Dissertation Committees, and as a research consultant for many other students and members through the Weeg Computing Center at the University. Throughout Bills’ life he has been involved with numerous memberships, organizations, and had received a number of recoginizations. Mentioning only a few these being a member of St. Andrew Presbyterian Church having served as an elder, member of AERA (American Education and Research Association) Phi Delta Kappa Education Fraternity, member of the Iowa Commission of Persons with Disabilities (a Division of Iowa Department of Human Rights), member/officer of Hawkeye Advocates of Persons with Disabilities, Community Member of University of Iowa Council on Disability Awareness, Volunteered at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics many hours, recipient of the Hancher-Finkbine Medallion Handicapped Iowan of the Year, and Handicapped State Employee of the Year. His family includes his wife, Maris; son, Robert F. Snider and his wife, Lynette of North Liberty; sisters, Charlotte Steffen of Wichita, KS, and Marjorie Green (Len) of Old Lyme, Connecticut and 5 nieces and nephews; and many grand nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his twin brother, Robert A. Snider and wife, Lillian in 2001; and brother-in-law, Dr. Harvey Steffen in 1974.
