Obituary of Ruth A. Hannan

Ruth A. Hannan, 70 of Iowa City, died Thursday, May 13, 2010, at her home. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, May 17, 2010, at the Parkview Evangelical Free Church in Iowa City. Graveside services will be held at 3p.m.Monday at the Oakwood Cemetery in Pella, Iowa. Visitation will be from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City. Ongna was born September 9, 1939, in Galesville, WI the daughter of Reuben and Lucille (Ludens) Ongna. She attended school in Ripon, CA, graduating from high school there. On June 20, 1964, she was united in marriage to Richard D. “Dick” Hannan in Denver, CO. The couple has lived their entire married life here in Iowa City, where she worked for the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in food service for over 30 years. She and Dick enjoyed their time together, square dancing whenever and wherever they could. They were members of the Ocean Waves Square Dancing Club, and Shirts and Skirts Square Dancing Club in Ainsworth. She was also a member of Parkview Evangelical Free Church and the North Dodge Athletic Club both in Iowa City. Her family includes her husband, Dick; brothers, Paul Ongna and Phil Ongna both of Oak Harbor, WA; sister, Judy Becker of Dallas, TX; 1 niece, 2 nephews, and 4 great nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Rodney, and a nephew, Steve.
