Obituary of Janette G. Rowland

Janette G. Rowland, 61, of Coralville, died Friday, July 23, 2010, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, July 31, 2010, at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City, burial will be at Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Memorial donations can be made in her memory to Iowa City Animal Shelter or the Susan G. Komen Foundation. Online condolences may be sent for Janette’s family through the web @ www.gayandciha.com. Janette Glendora Snyder was born January 9, 1949, in Iowa City the daughter of Verton and Glendora P. (Herring) Snyder. She attended schools in Iowa City graduating from City High School in 1968. While in high school she began working at The Children's Hospital School of the University of Iowa Hospitals, a career as a nurses aide that would span over thirty years. She enjoyed making jewelry, volunteering at the Iowa City Animal Shelter, and the friendships she developed in the Bosom Buddies cancer support group. Her family includes her brother, Willbert “Butch” Snyder of Coralville; sisters, Emily Staley of Clearwater, FL; and Clara Vance (James) of Homestead; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews. Her life partner, Dewey Thatcher, his daughters, and their families. She is survived by her cats, Isabella and Nettie Jo. Janette preferred comfortable clothing, from early childhood she was a blue jean gal. In her honor the family requests casual attire. She was preceded in death by her parents.
