Obituary of Susanna Breno

Susanna “Sue” Breno, 55, of Iowa City died Thursday, October 7, 2010, at the home of her daughter surrounded by her loving family. Funeral services will be held at 6:30 p.m., Monday, October 11, 2010, at the High Point Living Church (4187 Landon Avenue, Iowa City). Visitation will be from 2 to 6 p.m., Sunday at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service. Burial will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at the Rock Island Arsenal National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established in her memory. Online condolences may be sent through the web @www.gayandciha.com. Susanna Gorvin Breno was born December 18, 1954, in Iowa City the daughter of James and Anna Mary (Spratt) Gorvin. She married Joseph Breno II on June 8, 1973. The couple lived in Colorado for over 20 years where they raised their two children, Angel and Joseph III. She loved caring for her children and husband, and in later years being grandma was the greatest! She was a member of the High Point City Church, where she helping with Vacation Bible School every year. She was also a member of the ladies auxiliary. Sue loved to sew and cook meals for family and friends. Her family includes her husband, Joseph Breno II; daughter, Angel Pokorny (Mike) of Iowa City; son, Joseph Breno III (Melissa) of Johnstown, CO; six grandchildren, Aspen, Skylar, Breckyn, J.C., Allyana and Keegan; siblings, Pam and her husband, Phillip Escher of Wellman, Pat Grosvernor and her husband, John of Coralville, Mic Gorvin of Iowa City, Paul Gorvin and his wife, Tami of Coralville, Connie Mullinnix and her husband, Roger of Iowa City, and Don Gorvin of Coralville; sisters-in-law, Cindy Gorvin of Solon and Maureen Irish-Gorvin of Iowa City. She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters, Paula Gorvin and Barb Irish-Gorvin; brothers, Bruce Gorvin, James Gorvin II; and brother-in-law, John Grosvenor.
