Obituary of Karen R. Abbott

Karen R. Abbott, 50 of Iowa City died Sunday, October 24, 2010, at her home unexpectantly. Karen Renee’ Poggenpohl was born December 13, 1959, in Iowa City, the daughter of Walter F. and Edith A. (Halstead) Poggenpohl. For a number of years she was employed at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics as a CNA. Her family includes her mother, Edith Blanton of Iowa City; son, Joseph Rorex of Iowa City; daughter, Jennifer Shadday (Jeremiah) of Kelso, WA; brother, Steven Poggenpohl; sisters, Cindy Stroud, Janet Alcock (Ed) all of Iowa City and Dawn Schulte (Brad) of North Liberty; grandson, Jacob Dean Bild; nieces and nephews, Danelle Deatsch, Colette and Brian Applegarth, Wade Baines, and Marty Martinson. She was preceded in death by her father, step-father, Jack Blanton, and a nephew, Jason Williams. Family and friends will gather at the home of her mother, 116 Apache Trail, Iowa City from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, October 30th.
