Obituary of Marian A. Cox
Marian A. Cox, 84, of Iowa City, died Saturday, October 23, 2010 at Atrium Village in Hills. Funeral services will be held at 11a.m., Tuesday, October 26, 2010, at the Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City. Visitation will be from 9-11 a.m. Tuesday prior to the service. Burial will follow the service at Memory Gardens Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Marian Cox Memorial Fund. Marian Anna (Kuhlmann) Cox was born May 25, 1926, in Sheboygan, WI; daughter of Ewald and Louise (Kimme) Kuhlmann. Marian married Harold Tony Cox on September 15, 1949 in Iowa City. Shorty after marriage Marian began her life long career in the Iowa City school district working in the food service, retiring after 25 years as a supervisor. Even in retirement she continued to help young children volunteering at the schools in what ever capacity she could assist in. Marian also enjoyed time spent as a Girl Scout leader as well as the years she spent working in the photo lab at Economy Printing. Marian also enjoyed time spent with her family and friends; especially time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Marian was a proud life member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), the American Legion and the Disabled American Veterans (DAV). Her family includes her children, Kathryn Pieper (Randy) of Donnellson, IA; Randall Cox (Linda) of Marion, IA; Steven Cox of Iowa City, and Cynthia Dohrer (Steve) of Iowa City; grandchildren, Nathane Pieper (Laura), Jaime Kemp (Jeff), Cody Pieper, Scott Pieper (Brandi), Amanda Myers, Angela Dohrer and Gwendolyn Dohrer; great-grandchildren, Michelle, Marissa, Brendon, and Brianna Kemp, and Faith and Emma Myers; 4 step-grandchildren, 11 step-great-grandchildren, brother, Karl Kuhlman and sisters-in-law, June Cox, Nellie Cox and Shirley (Robert) Yerington. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband; Harold, and brother Jerome Kuhlmann.
