Obituary of Thomas W. Heitzman

Tom is survived by his special companion and friend Nancy Jean Wilcox, his twin children Scott and Angie Heitzman, and their mother Mary E. Heitzman. He will also be missed by his sister, Marge and husband, Dennis Hamilton, three brothers: Dick and wife Becky, Bill and wife Nancy, and Robert “Bear” Kern, stepmother Edna Heitzman and life long friend Bob Jenn. He is also survived by three aunts: Flossie Droll, Helen Unferth, and Gertrude Beringhele, and several nieces, nephews and cousins. From 1967 to 1971 he served his county in the Vietnam War as a ground equipment mechanic with the United States Air Force. After his tour of duty ended he returned to Hills and worked at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Iowa City for 31 years. He held the position of Warehouse Supervisor and was scheduled to retire in May. He attended St. Joseph’s Catholic School in Hills and graduated from Regina High School in Iowa City Tom was a life long resident of the Hills area, and was well thought of in the community. Tom was a loyal fan and supporter of the University of Iowa athletics. Among his many talents and interests were golf, billiards, woodworking, travel, and an ability to make those around him laugh. Ageneral memorial fund has been established in Tom’s name.
