Maureen Olsen
1941 - 2014
Condolences
Dear Maureen,
I just learned of your death - I'm thinking of Hank, Henry, and Jim and hope they are doing well. We had some very good times which I think of often; travelling to auctions and stopping at convenience stores to heat up our cabbage soup, figuring out the surface area of a lampshade (I still have your calculations), working on rebuilding your porch, working in the 'pit,' adding an addition to my house, getting stuck in a median (you were sure we could make it), endless hours of benign gossip, and of course our work at the VA. I have never met anyone smarter, more imaginative, or more fearless. You thought we could do anything. Knowing you are not down in Iowa City anymore leaves a hollow place in my heart. I loved you dearly.
Rose
My sympathies to the Olsen family. I was on Maureen's staff at the VA. She always showed confidence in me when I wasn't so sure I had it in myself. I respected her and was just getting to connect with her as a retiree.
My sympathies to Maureen's family. It has been a while since I last saw Maureen, but I always enjoyed chatting with her at lace gatherings.
Henry and sons,
Our deepest sympathy in your loss of Maureen. John and I attended Lost Nation High School with Maureen. She was one of the smartest people to ever come from L.N. and her sense of humor was wonderful. John was her classmate and I played basketball wth her. Very scrappy and lots of fun. I know she contributed much to this world and she will be missed by us and many. Deb and John Gerwulf
Hank and family, I have many fond memories of working with Maureen at the UI Pathology Department.. She was a pioneer in data processing and kept our cranky computers running. We had a good time together.
Hank, Henry, Jim and wife -
my prayers go out to you and yours for the comfort of knowing a very dear wife, mother, and friend has left this earth and joined our Heavenly Father. Maureen was a very gifted and heartwarming person. She gave so much to others, including me, with love and joy. I'm going to miss her smiling face, but Hank, as you know, I have many memories around me as I know you do as well, to keep her spirit alive in all of us.
My heart is heavy upon hearing that a dear friend has died. Many memories are left to think and smile about. Sympathies to the men in the family who are left to fend for themselves now. We will all miss you Maureen. Rest in peace dear lady.
Hank, Henry, Jim:
Please accept my deepest sympathy on the loss of your wife and mother. She was a dear friend and co-worker, my very best friend in Iowa City. Maureen ("Batman") was one of the most intelligent, funny, creative, and unique people I've ever known. I cherish her friendship and memory. May God give you comfort during this time and may His perpetual light shine brightly on Maureen.
In sympathy,
Rob ("Robin") Christopher
My deepest condolences go to the family, friends and acquaintances. Maureen and I managed to keep in touch throughout the years; she was a classmate of mine as well as we played basketball together at Lost Nation. She played a "mean" 1st chair clarinet, while I was second chair in the school band. Maureen was so intelligent, funny. talented and could problem solve with the best. I will miss our talks and get-togethers, "Beanie". What we all will cherish are the memories.
Deepest sympathy to Maureen's husband & family Darrell & I were former classmates! Maureen & I were neighbors for many years with a corn field in between our childhood farms Spending many hours in the field We were always seated in classrooms close to each other because of last initials (V & W) so many years ago Meeting up several years ago with Hank & her at Olive Garden Deepest sympathy Hopefully she was comfortable
Hank, Henry, and Jim - we were so sorry to hear about Maureen's passing. Please accept our deepest condolences and prayers. Dwight & Barbara Schuessler
Maureen lived with our family for a year as a University of Iowa student and did some babysitting for room and board. She was a delightful person to have with us, and I became aware of her very special intelligence. She, obviously put it to excellent use in her career. I am so sorry to see her career and life end so soon.
I will always remember Maureen as such a happy lady! We were taking a lace-making class together which we learned quickly was above our knowledge and competency. When we asked the instructor questions she was very short with us and we couldn't even understand her answers. We both got to giggling, partly because of embarrassment and partly because it just kept getting funnier.
