Obituary of Gerald Vikel

His family includes his wife: Linda of Windham, two daughters, Laura and husband, Brian Stoner of Williamsburg and children, Jeremy and Christopher, Lisa and husband, Randy Schnoebelen of Riverside and children, Jarad, Amy and Levi; father and mother in-law, Earlis and Lucy Rohret of Cosgrove, one brother, Carroll and wife, Linda Vikel of Iowa City and children, Tami Davidson of Wellman, Tracy Vikel of Iowa City, Trent Vikel of Tiffin, sisters in-law: Joan and husband, Larry Mooney, Karen and husband, Al Peterson, Marge and Jeff Amelon all of Iowa City, Kathy and husband, Bill Mahon of Cary, Illinois, Amy and husband, Curt Bowman of North Liberty, one brother in-law, Gary Rohret of Rochester, Minnesota along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and his favorite dog, Toby II. He was preceded in death by his parents. The Gay and Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service are caring for Gerald’s service and his family. Gerald George Vikel was born on March 13, 1946 in Iowa City the son of Frank and Leona Croulek Vikel. He attended local schools and Iowa City City High School. After school he worked for the Ford Garage, Lovetinsky Repair and Cline Implement Company in Iowa City. On June 15, 1967 he married Linda Rohret at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Iowa City. In 1974 he purchased the Windham Garage from Orval Yoder which he operated until 2000. He then worked at the Hy-Vee Waterfront Store in Iowa City where he was currently employed. Gerald was a member of the St. Peter Catholic Church in Cosgrove. He loved old cars, street rods, parades and doing rod sculptures. Gerald enjoyed flowers and gardening, he planted seven different varieties of peonies in his gardens this year. Gerald was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who will be missed by his family and friends. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to the Gerald Vikel memorial fund.
