Obituary of Margaret Tomash

Margaret L. Tomash, age 84 of Oxford, died Tuesday, December 30, 2003 at the Lantern Park Care & Rehab Center in Coralville. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, January 3, 2003 at the Oxford United Methodist Church with the Reverend Diane Townsley officiating. Burial will be at the Oxford Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4pm to 7pm Friday at the church. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Margaret’s memory. Margaret Louise Tomash was born November 26, 1919, in West Liberty, Iowa the daughter of Ray and Elsie Smith. She attended schools in West Liberty. On February 26, 1936, she married Anton Robert Tomash. For many years, the couple farmed northeast of Oxford, moving into town in 1967. After leaving the farm, Margaret found that she wanted to share one of her joys in life, that was cooking for others. She was employed at the Colonial Manor Care Center in Amana, and later at Lantern Park Care Center in Coralville as a cook and later in housekeeping. She was a member of the Oxford United Methodist Church, the Chat and Patch Club in Oxford, volunteered many hours in her church and community helping others. Those who knew Margaret knew a hardworking woman, whose family always came first. She was one that so enjoyed cooking and baking for everybody, and my was it good! Her family includes a son and his wife, Leo and Carol Tomash of Oxford; daughter and her husband, Shirley and Donald Diehl of Coralville; five grandchildren, Mike Tomash and his wife, Tammie, Bill Tomash and his wife, Patty, Tony Tomash, Kathy Mallie and her husband, Dean, and Kim Broulik and her husband, Dan; 11 great-grandchildren; 2 sisters, Erma Tomas of Fairfax, and Charlotte Rains of Plattesville, NE. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two grandsons, Chuck and Mark Tomash, two brothers, Harley and Kenneth Smith, and three sisters, Leatha Schaffer, Dorothy Smith, and Helen Kinney. Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Services of Iowa City is caring for Margaret’s family and her services.
