Obituary of Mark Bean

Mark A. Bean, age 48 of 2 Dunuggan Court, Iowa City died Saturday, February 7, 2004. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, February 12, 2004, at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Iowa City. Burial will be at Oakland Cemetery in Iowa City. Visitation will be from 3 to 7pm Wednesday at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Mark’s memory. Mark Alan Bean was born September 24, 1955, in West Union the son of Clyde and Leatrice Bean. He attended Iowa City Schools, graduating from Iowa City City High School in 1973; he then attended University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls. On June 21, 1980, Mark married Adalla Kaye Kollmann in Iowa City. For many years, Mark worked for the former Iowa – Illinois Gas & Electric Company before becoming the owner and operator of Embroidery Royale in Iowa City. He was a member of the Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Iowa City, and a longtime high school wrestling official, recently becoming the supervisor of the wrestling officials for the Mississippi Valley Conference. Iowa City City High School sports and wrestling were a very important part of Mark’s life. Mark was always willing to support all local softball and volleyball programs. He enjoyed golfing with his father, and other family members and friends. Mark also enjoyed his yearly fishing trips with some of his officiating buddies. His family includes his wife, Adalla; son, Jason Alan Bean of Iowa City; daughter, Jennifer Kaye Bean attending Cornell College at Mt. Vernon, Iowa; parents, Clyde and Leatrice Bean of Cedar Rapids; sisters and their husbands, Geri and Larry Kimmons of Cedar Hill, MO, Tedi and Tom Wilson of Solon, Cindra Harr and Mike Alkire of Carefree, AZ, and Julia and Bob Olson of Agency, IA; brother, Scott Bean of Detroit, MI; and many nieces and nephews.
