Obituary of Janet Sue Burr

Janet Sue Burr, age 61 of rural Lone Tree, died at her home with her loving family holding her hands, on Wednesday, March 17, 2004, of endometrial cancer. Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, March 22, 2004 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Iowa City with the Reverend James Vrba officiating. A luncheon will follow in the parish hall. Burial will be at a later date at Oakland Cemetery in Iowa City. Visitation will be from 3 to 6 p.m. Saturday at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City. Memorial donations can be made to the Janet Sue Burr Memorial Fund. Janet Sue was born February 2, 1943 in Iowa City the daughter of William and Marie (O’Brien) Lenz. She was a 1961 graduate of University High School (U-High) in Iowa City. On February 8, 1964, she married Ronald Burr at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Iowa City. This year they just celebrated forty years of marriage. They had two children, Angela and Mitchell. She and her husband, Ron lived outside Lone Tree. Their love of antiques turned into a small business. They could be found throughout the years at antique shows in Iowa and Minnesota. For over thirty-seven years, Janet Sue worked for the City of Iowa City as a Payroll Sr. Account Clerk. She also served as treasurer of AFSCME 183 for many years. Janet Sue had a laugh that was contagious to all and befriended everyone she met. Her family includes her husband, Ron; daughter, Angela Burr of Portland, OR; and son, Mitchell Burr of Phoenix, AZ; sisters, Ellen Rocca of Lone Tree, Ruth and her husband, Joe Vrchoticky of Iowa City, Joan and her husband, Jerry Vrchoticky of Iowa City; and a brother, John and his wife, Kim Lenz of Waxahachie, TX. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother-in-law, John Rocca. Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service of Iowa City is caring for Janet Sue’s family and her services.
