Obituary of Helen Delsing

Helen M. Delsing age 83 of Iowa City died in her Iowa City home surrounded by her family on Thursday, April 15, 2004. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 17, 2004 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Iowa City. Burial will be at Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be on Friday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. with a Vigil Service at 7:00 p.m. at Gay and Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City. In Lieu of flowers memorials may be given to Iowa City Hospice. Online condolences may be sent to her family through our website @www.gayandciha.com Helen Magdalen Villhauer was born on March 26, 1921 in Iowa City the daughter of William and Kathryn Reese Villhauer. She attended St. Mary Catholic School in Iowa City and a year of Cosmetology School. Helen married Donald G. Delsing on October 14, 1942 in Iowa City. She worked as a beautician along with helping her husband at Don?s Standard Station in Iowa City. For twenty eight years she worked at the University of Iowa in the Printing Services Department. Most recently she was employed part-time through ACT. Helen was a life long resident of Iowa City. A member of St. Mary Catholic Church, the American Legion Auxiliary of the Roy L. Chopek Post # 17 and the Mercy Hospital Guild. . Her family and friends where the center of her life, her home was always open. Helen loved a good game of cards, attending her grandchildren?s activities and the Iowa Hawkeyes. Her family includes her children, Pat and husband Jon Carlson of Moscow, Iowa, Dale and wife Claire Delsing of Portsmouth, Virginia, Judi Delsing of Iowa City and Terry and husband Kim Armstrong of Tiffin, nine grandchildren Scott and Troy Delsing, Chris Randall, Steve and Chad Butler, Jason and Michael Armstrong, Travis Delsing, and Robert Delsing, eleven great-grandchildren, three step great-grandchildren. Four sisters, Lucille ?Annie? Thomas of Coralville, Mary Reddick, Dorothy Belger and Phyllis Jedlicka of Iowa City. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son Jon ?Skip?, one brother and two sisters. The Gay and Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service are caring for Helen?s services and her family.
