Obituary of C. Robert Lillie

C. Robert Lillie, age 91, most recently of Iowa City, died Sunday, May 30, 2004 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City following a short illness. No funeral services are planned. Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service of Iowa City is caring for Robert’s family and his arrangements. Mr. Lillie was born January 21, 1913 in Terra Haute, Indiana, the son of Charles Grant and Susan Merry (Layton) Lillie. He received his bachelor’s and master’s degree from Purdue University. For 17 years, he lived in Tinley Park, Illinois with his wife, Virginia (MacBride) Lillie and their children and served on the village board and the First Church of Christ Scientist, Blue Island, Illinois church board. Following his first wife’s death in 1967, he married June (Rosen) Lillie in 1969 and moved to Glen Ellyn, Illinois. He was a member of Sigma Xi, a scientific research society. Upon retiring from Amsted Industries where he was a metallurgical researcher, the couple moved to Hendersonville, North Carolina where they lived for 25 years. He received honors in Hendersonville for bringing classical music performances to the area. They moved to Iowa City in 2002 to be near his daughter and her family. His family includes his son and wife, Brian G. Lillie and Sanna (Czuy) Lillie of Litchfield, CT; daughters, Robin M. Lillie and her husband, Daniel Mascal of Iowa City, and Marilyn L. MacBride of Reynoldsburg, OH; six grandchildren, Megan Lillie, Brendan Lillie, Jack Isleib, Kate Mascal, Pvt. Ian Mascal, and Laurel Wyatt. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Dr. Morton Lillie, first wife, Virginia and second wife, June.
