Obituary of Carroll Eden

Carroll Eden, age 89, of Legacy Pointe, former rural Iowa City resident died Wednesday, June 9, 2004, at the University Of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics in Iowa City. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, June 13, 2004, at the United Presbyterian Church in Lone Tree. Officiating will be Reverend Beverly Hovenkamp and Loren Yoder. Burial will be at the Lone Tree Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Saturday at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Carroll’s memory. Online condolences may be sent for Carroll’s family through our website @www.gayandciha.com. W. Carroll Eden was born February 19, 1915, in Lone Tree, Iowa the son of Charles T. and Hilma B. (Benson) Eden. Following graduation from Lone Tree High School, Carroll was employed by the University Hospitals as an orderly. On June 4, 1938, Carroll married Elma A. Goody at Old Brick Church in Iowa City. From 1941 until 1944, he drove for the hospital bringing patients to and from the hospital. In 1944, he and Elma moved to a farm southeast of Iowa City where they farmed for many years until his retirement. Carroll established many friendships throughout his many years being a Trojan Seed Corn representative, a member of the Johnson County Pork Producers, having served for over 25 years as a director and past president on the Eastern Iowa Light and Power Company Board, former member of the Swank Church in Lone Tree, and presently a member of the United Presbyterian Church in Lone Tree. His family includes a daughter and her husband, Janice and Gerald Rayner of Lone Tree; a son and his wife, Gary and Beth Eden of Iowa City; six grandchildren, Julie and her husband, Bob Buline, Randy and his wife, Elaine Rayner, Russ and his wife, Darcy Rayner, Justin Eden, Sheri Eden and Brandon Eden; seven great-grandchildren, Morgan, Jay, and Dillon Buline, Gina and Quinn Rayner, and Dalton and Austin Rayner; brothers, Hubert and his wife, Irmgard Eden of Fredericksburg, VA, Robert Eden of Iowa City, Marion Eden of Hills, and William and his wife, Delores Eden of Iowa City; sisters, Florence and her husband, Kenneth Millsap of Iowa City, Betty Kirchner of Iowa City, and Lavon and David Kirkpatrick of Houston, TX; brother-in-law, Marvin Goody of Iowa City; aunt, Ellen Benson of Lone Tree; many nieces and nephews and Carroll’s special friend, Marjorie Krebs. Carroll was preceded in death by his wife, Elma in 1994.
