Obituary of Charles Funk

Charles “Charlie” M. Funk age 88, of 1518 Broadway St., Iowa City died surrounded by his family on Sunday, July 4, 2004 at his home in Iowa City. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 8, 2004 at First United Methodist Church in Iowa City. Burial will be at Memory Gardens Cemetery, Iowa City. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Gay and Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City. In Lieu of flowers memorials may be given to Iowa City Hospice. Online condolences may be sent for family through our website @www.gayandciha.com. Charles Monroe Funk was born on August 28, 1915 in Oxford, the son of George and Ada (Neumire) Funk. He attended rural schools and severed his country during WWII. On January 21, 1945 he married Anita G. Maxey in Solon, Iowa. Charlie owned an independent trucking company and worked for the Cedar Rapids Gazette as a truck driver. He also owned Funk Saw and Sharpening Service. He was Past President of the Eagles Lodge, the VFW and Moose Lodge. His children will remember him as a loving and caring father. He had many talents including, dancing, woodworking and the ability to fix anything. They will miss his wisdom, quick wit and his sense of humor. His family includes his children: Rose A. Bell of Iowa City, Wayne Funk of Tucson, AZ., Dela and husband Ed Elliott of Iowa City, Jeanette and husband Michael Bloomquist of Letts, IA, Connie K. Funk of Tiffin, IA, Cheryll A. Wilson of Iowa City and Dan A. Funk of Iowa City, Charlie’s significant other of fourteen years, Cleo Studt of Iowa City, 22 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, 1 great great-grandchild, his siblings, Lottie Marshall and Dave Funk both of Iowa City along with numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Anita in 1987 and siblings, Jim Funk, Edith Shimon, Freddy Funk, John Funk, Hazel White, Marilyn Funk, and Donald Funk.
