Obituary of Everett F. Johnson

Everett F. Johnson age 84 of 2423 Walden Rd., Iowa City died on Wednesday, July 14, 2004 at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 17, 2004 at Gay and Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City. Burial will be at Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until service time at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Memorial donations may be given to the Everett Johnson Memorial Fund. Everett Francis Johnson was born on March 30, 1920 in Osawatomie, Kansas the son of George and Blanche Cassida Johnson. He graduated from Osawatomie High School and served his country in the United States Navy during WWII. On July 4, 1941 he married Helen G. Bohon in Kansas City, Missouri. Everett worked for the Rock Island Railroad as a master mechanic. He retired in 1979 and moved to Iowa City in 1996. Everett was a member of Christ the King Lutheran Church in Iowa City and the Osawatomie Masonic Lodge # 0024. He enjoyed fishing, traveling, and woodworking. Everett loved to tell a good story and was known for his sense of humor. His family includes his wife, Helen of Iowa City, sons, James and wife Mary Johnson of St. Louis Park, MN, David and wife Marcia Johnson of Johnston, IA., daughter, Bette and husband Robert Strug of Coralville, IA., grandchildren Michael and wife Patti Johnson, Stephen Johnson, David and wife, Cheryl Johnson and Lauren Strug and three great-grandchildren, Paige, Lance and Annabelle Johnson. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Tom. Gay and Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service is caring for Everett’s family and his services.
