She has lived in different parts of Iowa and Wisconsin before moving to Riverside last year. She was a senior this year at Highland High School near Riverside. Following graduation, she intended to attend law school in New Orleans. Her family and friends will remember a focused, determined, hard working young lady, with a great sense of humor, very loving towards her friends and family, always willing to help, one that took charge, ready to tackle whatever was thrown her way. Growing up she was involved with 4-H, FFA, TAG, volleyball, choir, and the debate teams. She took great pride in showing dairy cattle and draft horses, showmanship was important to her and she shined in the spotlight. Horses have always been a passion with Elyse; she was a true equestrian with all her heart and soul. Her family includes her parents, Sharon Gerot and Tom Hansen of Riverside; sisters, Jill Gerot of Greenwood, WI and Melanie Gerot and Josh Sperl of Medford, WI; great-aunt, Verna Peck of Fulton IL; other relatives and many friends. She was preceded in death by her grandfather, Blaine Maydew, and life companion, her good dog, Hank. Elyse will be missed and remembered by so many. Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service of Iowa City is caring for Elyses family and her services.
