Obituary of Benjamin Moore

Benjamin J. “Ben” Moore, age 52 of 25 Edgewood Circle, Iowa City of an apparent heart attack, Sunday, October 17, 2004, at his home. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, October 20, 2004 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Iowa City with the Reverend Rudy Juarez officiating. Burial will be at St. Bridget’s Cemetery at Nolan Settlement, rural Johnson County. Visitation will be from 4 to 8pm today at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City, where a parish vigil service will be held at 8pm. Memorial donations can be made in Ben’s memory to Pathway’s or Iowa City Hospice. Online condolences may be sent for Ben’s family through our website @www.gayandciha.com. Benjamin James Moore was born January 3, 1952, in Iowa City the son of Patrick L. Moore Sr. and Marie Catherine (Montgomery) Moore. He attended Iowa City schools graduating from City High School in 1970. He later received a degree in Architectural Drafting from Kirkwood Community College. On September 25, 1976, Ben married Patricia C. Irving at St. Bridget’s Catholic Church. Ben has been associated with Moore Construction Company of Iowa City all his life, presently as the president of the company. Ben was one who believed in church and community responsibilities, serving and receiving numerous recognitions over the years. He was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church where he served as chairman of the Parish Council, past president of Iowa City Home Builders Association, served on the Remodelers Council, member of the Iowa city Housing Authority Commission, coach for Iowa City Kickers and Babe Ruth, where he served on the board of directors, former assistant scout master of Boy Scout Troop #250, Trustee at the Elks Club, served on the Board of Directors for Pathways, member of the Iowa City Noon Rotary and the Quarterback Club. He was inducted into Iowa City City High School Hall of Fame, received the “2002 Business Community Award” from the Iowa City Human Rights Commission, and recently received from Governor Vilsack the “2004 Best Accessible Design Award” from the Iowa Commission of Persons with Disabilities. If you knew Ben you knew his love for his family and work, sports of any kind, but especially the Iowa Hawkeye’s, and of course NASCAR Racing. His family includes his wife, Patricia; sons, Chad Moore of Iowa City and Tom Moore and his wife, Susan of Iowa City; Ben’s father, Patrick Moore Sr. of Iowa City; sisters, Cathy Ahrendt of Iowa City, Mary Gaffey and her husband, Marty of Iowa City; brothers, Steven “Joe” Moore and his wife, Laurie of Iowa City, Bob Moore and his wife, Sue of North Liberty, Mike Moore and his wife, Katy of New Hope, MN, and Pat “Babe” Moore and his wife, Cathie of Iowa City;; brother and sister-in-law, Bob and Robin Irving of Solon; and Ben’s faithful and best friend, Sammy, his dog. He was preceded in death by his mother, Marie Moore; and a brother, Thomas Moore. Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service is caring for Ben’s family and his services.
