Obituary of Laurance Miller

Laurance “Bud” Miller, 83 of 283 Paddock Circle, Iowa City died Monday, November 1, 2004, at the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics in Iowa City following a long illness. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, November 4, 2004 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Solon, with the Reverend David Wilkening officiating. Burial will be at the St. Mary’s Cemetery in Solon. Visitation will be from 4 to 6pm Wednesday at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City, and after 10:00 a.m. Thursday at the church. Following the services at the cemetery a reception will be held at the Saddlebrook Club House in Iowa City. Online condolences may be sent for Bud’s family through our website @www.gayandciha.com. Laurance Miller was born March 24, 1921, on the family farm near Solon, the son of Raymond and Mae (Campion) Miller. He graduated from University High School in Iowa City, and then attended trade school in Kansas City, MO. On November 5, 1940, he married Mary Adelaide Lewis. The couple farmed near Solon, and their farm received the Century Farm award and recognition in the 1970’s. Bud enjoy working with wood in his workshop, and was devastated when fire destroyed it. His family includes his wife of sixty-four years, Mary; one daughter, Jean, and grandson Bill Milder all of Iowa City; brother, Earl of Solon, sisters-in-law, Charlotte Hunter and Marguerite Lovetinsky both of Iowa City, Loretta Miller of Solon, and Valroy Lewis of Cedar Rapids. He was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers, Albert and John Miller. Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service of Iowa City is caring for Bud’s family and his services.
