Gary D Himes (Joined BSA Troop 294 in 1962) - Phoenix/Scottsdale, AZ - Student of Ferneta Sulek
Ferneta Sulek was one of my rotating 7th grade teachers in 1964-65 at Ingleside School. She also taught Steven Spielberg 5 years earlier; whom she challenged to focus on what he wanted to do as a career. Ingleside Elementary School (grades K-8) on Osborn Rd and 54th Street in Phoenix. The school was actually a part of the Scottsdale Public School System, but more importantly, it was his 7th grade teacher, Mrs. Ferneta Sulek, whom challenged young Steven to start focusing on what he wanted to do for a career. He was a member of Boy Scout Troop 294 at Ingleside where He was viewed as a great storyteller by fellow scouts around the evening campfires on the monthly camping trips. He picked up a camera and completed the photography Merit Badge. Once he realized filmmaking was a powerful form of impressionism, all he wanted to do was share more of his stories through movies. The world was changed forever by Ferneta Sulek's challenge to a 12 year old boy to focus on what he wanted to do with his life. Also, Tex Sulek was a member of the same scout troop in the 1959-60 time frame.
