Obituary of Martha Ruth Addison

Martha Ruth Addison, 91, of Iowa City, died Saturday, July 16, 2005 at Greenwood Manor, Iowa City. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, July 22, 2005, at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City. Graveside services will be held at 3pm Friday will be at the Millersburg Cemetery in Millersburg, Iowa. Visitation will be from 4 to 7pm Thursday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made to Iowa City Hospice. Online condolences may be sent for Ruth’s family through our website @www.gayandciha.com. Martha Ruth Holderness was born June 21, 1914 in Dayton Township, Iowa County, Iowa the daughter of Ardillus and Carrie (Row) Holderness. Her family moved to the Iowa City area where she attended schools here. On March 21, 1931 she married Ellery Maske. She later married James Addison on May 1, 1971. For many years she worked at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City, prior to that she worked at the Veterans Administration Hospital, and for a local drycleaners. Ruth had been a longtime friend and caregiver for Hattie and Charlie Showers of Iowa City. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, VFW Auxiliary, and the Eagles Lodge. Ruth enjoyed her garden, cooking, sewing, but most of all her family and friends meant the world to her! Her family includes a son and his wife, Donald and Corrine Maske of Sioux Falls, SD, daughter, Elsa Darlene Feddersen of Iowa City; step-son and his wife, Michael and Gayle Steiner of Manton, CA; daughter-in-law, Patricia Hofer of York, NE, grandchildren, Kathy and her husband, Sid Joslyn, Gary McNabb and Lillie, Marvin McNabb and his wife, Candy, Belinda McNabb and Ken Lance, Craig Whetstine and his wife, Debbie, Kevin Whetstine and his wife, Frances, Gabriel Pallotti and her husband, Phillip, Christine Yarrow and her husband, Phillip, June Hamilton and her husband, Kevin, Donald Maske and Theresa, Roger Maske, Heather Hall and her husband, Eric, David Maske, Randy Feddersen, Melanie Feddersen, Christine Croghan and her husband, William, Wendy Wartell and her husband, Ralph, J.C. Maske, Michael Maske, William Maske, Christal Maske, Teresa Fischer and Jeanette Maske; forty-one great-grandchildren, twenty-eight great-great-grandchildren, and many beloved nieces, nephews, and friends, including her dearest friend, Fran Stewart. Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, husband, James Addison, daughter, Betty Jean Maske (McCabb,Whetstine, Smith), son, Jerry Dean Maske, grandson, Alan McNabb; sisters, Margaret Van Dee, Eva Rodgers, Oma Walters, Sarah Van Dee and Zelma Baines; brothers, Arthur, Carl, Ernest, Virgil, Lester, and Alvah Holderness.
