Obituary of John Bock

John W. “Jack” Bock, age 83 formerly of 2919 Eastwood Drive, Iowa City died Friday, December 10, 2004, at Windmill Manor in Coralville, from complications of Alzheimers disease. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, December 14, 2004, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Iowa City, with burial at the St. Joseph Cemetery in Iowa City. Visitation will be from 4 to 7pm Monday at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City where a parish vigil service will be at 7pm. A memorial fund has been established in Jack’s memory. John Wallace Bock was born January 15, 1921, in Iowa City the son of George and Lillian (Kouba) Bock. Jack graduated from St. Mary’s High School in Iowa City. Following graduation from high school Jack served in the United States Army during WWII serving in India and Burma. On April 30, 1947, Jack married Mary Ann Laschke at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Iowa City. Jack was associated with First National Bank of Iowa City for over forty-five years, retiring in 1986. He was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. Jack was a person who believed in Iowa City and the surrounding area, as a member of many organizations throughout the years including the Elks Club, Lions Club, Knights of Columbus, Jaycees, Iowa City Chamber of Commerce and the Iowa City Homebuilders Association. He enjoyed playing golf, watching the Iowa Hawks, and volunteering his time and talents to the Senior Center. His family includes his wife, Mary Ann residing at Windmill Manor in Coralville; son and his wife, Dick and Cheryl Bock of Iowa City; daughter and her husband, Jane and Timothy Zwiener of Iowa City; three grandchildren, Matt Bock, Allie Bock and Brianna Zwiener; brother and his wife, Bill and Phyllis Bock of Iowa City, and his brother-in-law, Harvey Laschke. Jack was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Alice Mary Bock, and brother-in-law, Bill Laschke. Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service of Iowa City is caring for Jack’s family and his services.
