James E. "Jim" Leiser
1935 - 2014
Condolences
I lived about 5 houses from Jim & Elaine for all those growing up years. Elaine was my best friend and I thought her big brother was pretty neat - Jim was not at all impressed with me, however. I knew you, too, Janet but since I was 3 years younger I doubt that you knew who I was. I'm sorry for your loss but also hope I can reconnect with Elaine.
Seeing his picture here brings back a flood of good memories with Lisa, and even with Jim, Sue, Lynn and Mitch. There's no doubt he was a great father as he and Jan raised 3 great children. The obituary was a beautiful tribute, and my thoughts and prayers go out to all of his family, but in particular to Jan, his wife of "61 1/2 years"!! That says it all.
Fondly remembering "Leiser". He will be greatly missed by all that new and loved him. He, and Short Kondora are together having a cold one. My heartfelt sympathies to all of Jim's family, and many friends.
God Bless,
Krista

I was very sorry to learn of Jim's death. He and I were classmates many years ago at Wilson High School in Cedar Rapids. Both of us were in the 1953 graduating class. If memory serves me correctly, I piloted Jim's Cushman motor scooter around the block a time or two without, incident during our years at Wilson. Jim was among the fortunate few in our class who was able to afford a motor scooter, and it was nice of him to trust me as the occasional driver of the Cushman. I'm dating myself with this comment, but I also think I was among the passengers in a car owned by Jim that attempted to sneak into the drive-in theater on the westside of Cedar Rapids back in the days when there were still drive-in movie theaters. Unfortunately, our endeavor didn't work out the way we had it planned. A security guy at the drive-in caught us before we got into the theater, and instructed us to go home--or at least go somewhere far away from the drive-in. Those were the days! I believe I also remember Jim's wife, the former Janet Dumond. I think she and I were classmates at Lincoln Elementary School at 18th Avenue and 9th Street in Cedar Rapids. Correct me if I'm wrong about that , Janet. Also, of course, Janet and I were classmates at Wilson. My best to Janet and everyone else in Jim's family. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you.
To the family of Mr. James E. Leiser my heart felt condolences. I knew Jim through Jim Jr. and Sue. The first time I met Jim he and his wife treated my family with love and respect. The times we went to dinner in Bullhead Az and in Laughlin Nv. Jim would never let us pay. I found out that Jim was a Legend in the Cedar Rapids Plummer's Union Hall and Jim Jr was the Son of Legend. A fitting distinction for both Jim Sr. and Jim Jr. I love you and I will miss you. David Rivas

Jan and family, our hearts are aching for you. He was such a dear man and a wonderful friend. Since we heard the news we have shared Leiser stories and laughed and cried. Wish we could have had one more before he had to go. He always wanted to go "where the bright lights and country music is". Now he's there.
Thinking of you all at this time of loss. May you find the strength and faith to ease your pain. I know personally how hard it is to lose someone at the holiday season my hope for you is to know you are thought of by many and that your father was a kind. sweet man.
