Obituary of Dorothy J. Sorensen

Dorothy J. Sorensen, age 78 of Oxford died Saturday, March 19, 2005, at the Lantern Park Nursing & Rehab Center in Coralville following an extended illness surrounded by her family. Funeral services will be held 3:30 p.m., Wednesday, March 23, 2005, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Oxford with the Reverend Edmond Dunn officiating. Burial will be at the Mt. Calvary Cemetery near Oxford. Visitation will be from 4 to 8pm Tuesday at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service – Oxford Chapel with a parish rosary service will be a 7:30pm followed by a vigil service. Dorothy Jean Sorensen was born June 20, 1926, in Oxford, the daughter of Clarence “Ike” and Elsie Kutcher. Following graduation from Oxford High School, she married Peter Harding Sorensen on April 21, 1947, in Oxford. In addition to caring for her eight children as they grew up, she worked for Seven Villages Restaurant and the Holiday Inn both in the Amana’s, and most recently with Lantern Park Nursing & Rehab Center in Coralville. She was a lifetime member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and the American Legion Auxiliary both in Oxford. Her family includes her children, Larry Sorensen and his wife, Sharon of Tiffin, Mike Sorensen of Tiffin, Steve Sorensen and his wife, Deb of North Liberty, Jim Sorensen and his wife, Angie of West Branch, Paul Sorensen of Oxford, Chuck Sorensen and his wife, Deana of Park View, Iowa, Mary Sue “Susie” Sorensen of Oxford, and Diane Sorensen of Coralville; fifteen grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. She proceeded in death by her parents, husband Peter Harding Sorenson on February 18, 1992, and two brothers. Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service is caring for Dorothy’s family and her services.
