Marcy Smith TenEick was born February 26, 1942, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City to Mary Schillig Smith and Calvin L. Smith Sr. Most of her younger years were spent in the Iowa City area except four years of grade school and one year of high school, which were spent in Arizona. She graduated from Regina High School in 1960, and worked for Northwestern Bell Telephone until June of 1962, when she married Robert TenEick of Iowa City. Marcy and Robert spent nine years in the Navy, and lived in such interesting cities as Norfolk, VA, San Diego, Los Angeles, CA and Honolulu, HI. Marcy earned her nursing degree in 1978, and practiced in Ottumwa, Atlantic, and Iowa City, either in Intensive Coronary Care, or in Quality Assurance. She joined the State of Iowa Department of Inspections and Appeals in 1989, as a federal and state Surveyor/Inspector for long term care health facilities licensed in Iowa. For health reasons, Marcy retired from state employment in October of 2001. The most important things in her life centered around her family and friends. Socializing with them, sharing fun times and sad times, and everything in between. Prior to her retirement, she belonged to various professional organizations. In Atlantic she served on the Board of Directors for the YMCA, until moving to Iowa City. Marcy was an active member of the Altrusa Womens Club of Iowa City, joining in 1999. She volunteered yearly for Project Green at their annual spring plant sale, and served where she was needed. Playing bridge and reading were passions, and flower gardening her hobby. Her family includes her husband, Robert TenEick; daughters and sons-in-laws, Kimberly and David Feltman of Cedar Rapids, and Kelly and Bryan Powers of McKinney, TX; grandchildren, Michael L. Feltman, Mary Kate T. Schmitt, Haley T. Powers and Austin T. Powers. She is also survived by her mother, Mary Schillig Smith of Iowa City; sister, Patricia Ann Smith of Siletz, OR; brothers, Calvin Smith Jr. of North English, and Donald L. Smith and David L. Smith both of Iowa City. Marcy was preceded in death by her father, Calvin L. Smith Sr., and her sister, Nancy Lee Smith Hawkins both of Iowa City. Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service of Iowa City is caring for Marcy’s family and her services.
