Obituary of Ethelyn Slaughter

Ethelyn B. Slaughter, 83, formerly of Iowa City, died Sunday, June 19, 2005 at Cedar Manor Nursing Home, Tipton, Iowa. Funeral services will be held 10:30am, Thursday, June 23, 2005 at the Gay & Ciha Funeral Home, Iowa City. Visitation will be from 4 to 7pm, Wednesday, June 22, 2005 at the funeral home. Ethelyn was born January 10, 1922 in Johnson County, Iowa to Russell and Jane (Burke) King. Ethelyn was a graduate of West Branch High School. She married Fredick Slaughter in May of 1945 in Lone Tree, Iowa; he preceded her in death October 28, 1995. Ethelyn worked for many years at Paris Dry Cleaners, Iowa City. Ethelyn’s family includes two daughters, Dessa Slaughter and Deeda Hubler, both of Tipton, two sons Gary Bright and wife, Nancy of Mt Vernon and Devin Slaughter of Atalissa, 12 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, 1 great-great grandson and a twin sister, Evelyn Newmire of Cedar Rapids. Ethelyn was preceded in death by her parents, husband and 1 grandson, Michael. Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service of Iowa City is caring for Ethelyn’s family and her services.
